Brussa and ValleVecchia

On dirt and paved roads, between villages as Lugugnana, Brussa and Castello di Brussa, the itinerary from Bibione reaches the natural environment of Brussa and the protected lagoon area of ValleVecchia: this route is suitable for cyclists of every level. The only caveat is to be careful when crossing the road to Lugugnana, and also to avoid the hottest hours of the day during summer months. It is an authentic immersion in the peace of the countryside and in the wonders of nature. The ValleVecchia, also described by American writer Ernest Hemingway in his book "Across the River and into the Trees", is an island, whose sandy coastline still retains almost all its natural integrity, thanks to the presence of one of the largest coastal dune systems. The ecologicalimportance of ValleVecchia is that it hosts the largest stretch of undeveloped beach of northern Adriatic; it is therefore one of the few places remained to observe the typical wildlife of sandy coasts, as well as many endemisms due to its special geographical position, which makes it a sort of "middle Earth" between East and West.

Ornithologists have recorded over 150 species of birds: a sort of open-air birdlife sanctuary, where it is easy to spot swans, herons and hawks, stilts and anatids in general.

Both on the outward and return journeys cozy inns, restaurants and taverns between Brussa and ValleVecchia offer local gastronomic specialties to taste.
